Creating a morning routine was the number one most important and successful part of my self-development journey. It has taken me to the next level of my personal growth and I couldn’t imagine it not being a part of my everyday life.
Most successful and happy people get up early and work on themselves and their goals before the rest of the world have even stirred. They also don’t check their phone first thing in the morning. Instead, they dedicate this time to improving their life. Creating a morning routine for yourself will give your morning purpose and therefore your day more purpose. It’s the best start to your day because you’re priming your brain to be switched on and motivated. It gives you more structure, focus, time for yourself, motivation, time for self-care and to work on your goals. Furthermore, it will also boost your mood, energy levels, and creativity. Moreover, it will give you a head start on your day and put you in a positive mindset ready to have an amazing, productive, and positive day.
Set a Time That Works for You
The process of your morning routine is more important than the timing but you should aim to start your day as early as possible without negatively impacting your sleep. Therefore, aim to get between 7-9 hours of quality sleep, whilst getting up early to take on your day. I find 7 am is the perfect time for me but if your schedule is different the prime time to start is between 5-6 am.
I love starting my morning with either my morning routine then exercise. Or, an early morning bike ride and then straight into my morning routine.
You can set aside however long you like in your morning to dedicate to your morning routine. Anywhere between 30-90 minutes is amazing. I usually spend around an hour on my morning routine but everyone is different. Experiment and see what’s best for you and create a morning routine and time frame that fits into your schedule.
What to Include in Your Morning Routine?
Everyone is different and has different goals and priorities in their lives. You can spend your morning routine doing anything that helps you start your day positively and productively.
I find that there are things that everyone should try to incorporate into their daily routine because they’re universal and beneficial to anyone who practices them.
These are things like:
- Make your bed
- Brush your teeth
- Practice skincare
- Have a healthy drink- lemon water, smoothie, water, tea, etc
- Read over your goals/to-do list
- Practice manifestations/affirmations
- Meditate
- Journal
- Stretch
- Read a chapter of an uplifting book
- Plan your day- set your intentions and everything you’re going to achieve that day
- Some sort of movement- walking, cycling, Pilates, yoga, running, etc
These are standard things that I do every single morning and they set up for the best day possible. I start my day with a good mindset and with direction on how my day is going to go and what I’m going to achieve.
You can add anything else that is going to help you get closer to reaching your goals or that is going to make you feel good about yourself and your day.
More Morning Routine Ideas
Here are some other things that you could incorporate into your morning routine:
- Intermittent fasting/make breakfast (depending on your preference)
- Read about a topic that will help you to reach your goals- self-development or business book
- Practice gratitude
- Research areas that interest you
- Have a relaxing bubble bath/shower
- Body brushing
- Set your intentions for the week or 6-month goals
- Spend time working on your goals/business
- Writing
It’s fun to play around with different things until you find what works best for your personal growth, intentions, schedule, and mindset. Remember, do whatever feels good for you and what is going to help you get closer to reaching your goals.
Your morning routine should make you feel good and that you want to get out of bed and get started with it. Therefore, it shouldn’t feel like a chore or something you “should” do.
I couldn’t start my day any other way now because it’s so ingrained into my daily routine. It makes me feel amazing and gets me closer to where I want to be every day. I have achieved so many of my goals simply by having more structure, focus, and the right start to my days.
What Areas of Your Life Do You Want to Improve the Most?
You can focus your morning routine around the things that you’d like to improve most in your life currently. Furthermore, you can change it up to suit different goals you have, different times of the year, and to fit around different schedules or priorities in your life.
Think about the areas in your life you’d like to improve and work on the most and focus your morning routine time around this area. Reflect on ways that you could get closer to reaching your goals and set aside time in the morning to focus on these tasks. Even 30 minutes every morning working towards your goals; will have a massive influence and will help you to reach your goals before you know it.
Use this time to journal, meditate, brainstorm, research, or work towards your current most important goal. You could do these tasks around any goal you have; weight loss, abundance, your career, health, confidence, etc.
“Some people dream of success while others get up every morning and make it happen.”– Wayne Huizenga
