The majority of people spend their lives living in regret, resentment, hurt, guilt, or anger from their past. They wish their lives away waiting for the weekend, their next holiday, the next big event in their schedules. Or, just praying that their future will be brighter than their present. To live a happy, fulfilled, and content life, you need to learn how to live in the present moment. Concentrate on today and become happy with yourself and your life as it is now. You can do this whilst working on yourself and your goals daily.
How your life pans out 100% depends on how you act, feel, react, and what action you take today. There are some things you can’t control in life. However, you can control how you choose to react to things and how you behave.
You are the creator of your life, therefore, it’s pointless beating yourself up about the past or worrying about the future. All your power is in the present day. You can change the course of your life and create the life you’ve always envisioned for yourself by concentrating on today.
Your aim is simply to get better every day and to concentrate on today. Find ways in which you improve yourself and your life in the present moment.
Therefore, it’s time to start being mindful of how you’re spending your time, who you surround yourself with, and how you’re currently feeling. Focus on how you can improve today, what excites you, what makes you feel alive, who/what grounds you, and what habits you can gain/lose. Learn how to be present in every moment and with everybody in your life.
How to Concentrate on Today
To learn how to concentrate on today, you need to become mindful on how you are currently spending your time. How you can reduce mindless activities like scrolling on your phone or watching television for hours? Similarly, how you can become more grateful for everything you have in your life? And, how you can learn to love and accept the person you are today?
Stop living your life for the weekend or your next holiday etc. Instead, find happiness and fulfillment every day. If you’re unhappy with your present reality, start to change the things that don’t serve you or make you happy today. Concentrate on the here and now and start growing a little bit every day. Therefore, you won’t need to escape from your current reality anymore.
Create a life that you can’t wait to wake up to and start doing things that make you feel amazing about yourself and your life. Moreover, find things you can do to help you concentrate on today, boost your mood, and make you feel good about yourself and your life. Additionally, these could be, reading self-development books, listening to uplifting podcasts or music, meditation, journaling, walking in nature, yoga, positive affirmations, etc.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed with our goals and our self-development because the end goal seems so far out of reach and a lot of effort. You need to stop looking at how far you’ve got to go to reach your goals. Instead, focus solely on what you can do today that will get you one step closer to your goal. Keep doing that daily and before you know it, you will have reached all of your goals, simply by focusing on each day as it comes and how you can be the best version of yourself today.
Journaling Prompts to Concentrate on Today
Every day when you wake up ask yourself;
- What are my top 3 goals today?
- How do I want to feel today?
- What bad habit am I not going to do today?
- Which new positive habit will I replace this with?
- What would the best version of myself do today?
- Which one thing can I do today to help me reach my big goal?
- What am I grateful for today?
- Is there something positive that I’m looking forward to today or that happened to me today?
- What do I want to improve in my life today?
These journal prompts will enable you to focus your attention and energy onto the present moment. When you are mindful of your current reality and embrace it, you will learn to appreciate the here and now.

Summary
Concentrating on today and how you’re feeling about yourself and your life, will help you to be more mindful of how you can improve the things that aren’t making you feel happy or fulfilled in your life.
Furthermore, you never know when your last day is going to be and it’s important to embrace every day and see it as a gift because you’re lucky to be alive. Therefore, you should live in the present and appreciate every little thing in your life. Stop taking things for granted, learn to grow from where you are now, and embrace every aspect of your life.
Having goals and dreams to look forward to, helps you to remain focused on your self-development but it’s important to not seek happiness in your final destination. Moreover, stop saying you’ll be happy when… you’ve lost 10lbs, you’ve got the career of your dreams, or, you’ve met your soul mate. Saying you’ll be happy when you’re rich, you’ve got a bigger house, you’re married, you have kids, etc steals your happiness from today.
Remember
You need to learn to love and accept yourself and your life as it is now, whilst working towards your dreams because everything comes down to your mindset. Even if you reach your goal weight or win the lottery, it doesn’t guarantee your happiness because you’ll always look to the next thing that’s making you unhappy in your life.
Once you learn to concentrate on today and practice gratitude for your life and everything in it, you will learn that you can be happy as you are. Your goals will just enhance that and not determine your happiness in life.
