We all have big goals that we want to achieve in life but they are often left as just dreams because we never pursue them. It can be overwhelming to think of your big goals because we are focused on the end result. You might not know where to start or how you’re going to achieve your big goal. Therefore, you put it off because you’re scared of failing. After all, it’s so daunting to get started. You need to break down big goals so that they are less intimidating and so you will make consistent progress with them.
Instead of focusing your mind on the end result of each of your big goals; own your own house, start your own business, lose 2 stone, do everything off your bucket list, etc; decide to work on baby steps that will help you to get there in time.
You need to break down big goals into smaller tasks that you can do easily each day. Think to yourself “What can I do today that will help me get closer to my goals?”. The process of working towards your goals is far more realistic than saying “This year I’m going to move out, change careers, and get to my goal weight”.
Instead, you need to take these big goals and promise yourself that you’ll take daily little steps towards getting one step closer to achieving them. This way you’re always making progress and you’re far less likely to quit.
If you don’t break down big goals they can be quite intimidating. Therefore, you tend to never get started with them because they’re so massive to achieve.
Here are some invaluable tips to help you get started on achieving your big goals…
Break Down Big Goals Into Small Tasks
The first thing to do is to write down all the big dreams you want to achieve. Then for each one, write down anything and everything that comes to your mind about steps you can take to achieve that goal. When you break down big goals you are more likely to achieve them.
Too often we don’t even begin to attempt to achieve our big goals in life because they’re too overwhelming and too broad. Saying you want to open a restaurant is a massive goal. It’s likely to become just a dream because you’re too scared of failure or have no clue where to get started. You need to break down your big goals and think about how you’re going to get there.
Break down your big goals into daily little tasks that you will definitely do. It might seem that you’re not getting anywhere fast with reaching your goal. However, it is far better to do something rather than to do nothing at all because your goal is too big to achieve overnight.
Do the Easiest Task First
Once you break down your big goals into smaller steps and tasks that you can achieve, break this down even further. Think of the quickest, easiest step you can do first. Then the next easiest task the following day and continue this process.
You’ll be amazed at how these small and easy tasks progress and how far you will come in a short amount of time. This will help you to stop procrastinating because the small daily goals are easily achieved. Moreover, you’ll feel a massive sense of pride and motivation to keep going.
Because you’re breaking your big scary goal down into small daily tasks, you’ll actually do them because the more little tasks you do the more it will add up. Therefore, the more you will want to keep going because you’ll be getting closer and closer to your big goal every day.
Small Progress Daily is Better Than No Progress
Even spending 30 minutes daily working towards your big goals will add up significantly. Consistently taking small steps toward reaching your goals is far better than putting them off for years because they’re too daunting to tackle.
Say your big goal is to write a novel, the chances are that you will put this off for ages. That is because it’s a massive and time-consuming task. Break down this big goal into smaller tasks and achieve them daily. You will begin to notice the progress you’ve made over a short period of time. Therefore, this will help you to keep going.
Take the first steps like buying a notebook to jot down your novel ideas, making brainstorms, writing the first line, etc. This will get you closer and closer every day to your end goal.
Start Your Day by Writing a Small To-Do List
Write down small, easy, and non-intimidating tasks to do every morning. Ensure that they will help you on the path toward reaching your big goals in life. If you break down big goals into smaller manageable goals then you are far more likely to reach them.
Say your big goal is to lose 2 stone, then some good first tasks would be to, buy some workout clothes or drink an extra glass of water today. Furthermore, you could look up gym prices, go for a walk, do 15 minutes of exercise, or eat a healthy breakfast, etc.
These little daily tasks are positive little steps towards helping you to attain your big goal of losing 2 stone. Furthermore, they will help to give you direction towards reaching it. This will help to make your goals seem more realistic and that you can achieve them over time.
Give Yourself Challenges
I like to challenge myself to achieve something different each month. It gives me focus on getting closer to where I want to be in life. This helps you to break down big goals into more manageable chunks and helps you to focus on one area at a time.
I’ve done a vegan month, sort and sell month, spend less month, learn basic Spanish month, etc. This is a great way to help you achieve things that you want to do. Furthermore, it helps you to remain focused on each area. It could be healthy eating, fitness, sorting the house, saving money, learning something new, or, starting a new hobby. Other examples are, reading, working towards your dream, working on a project you’ve been doing, etc.
You can give yourself monthly, weekly, or daily challenges. Depending on what works best for you and what you want to achieve. Moreover, you can focus solely on one area or several different areas of your life.
Work Out What Goals You Want to Work Towards This Year
Dedicate this year to working towards getting yourself closer to achieving your big goals in life. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself to have everything figured out and achieved by a certain date.
Too often we don’t work towards our big goals because we have so many, don’t feel we have the time, or, we’re afraid we will fail, etc. However, taking small steps daily will help you to feel less overwhelmed and will help you to get closer to actually reaching your goals.
Work out what goals you want to work towards this year and work out how you’re going to do it. Make a plan, brainstorm, and write down anything and everything that comes to your head that will help you on the path to reaching your goals.

Summary
It’s important to remember that achieving your big goals in life will not happen overnight. However, as long as you’re working towards your goals you will get there in time.
If you don’t work on your big goals at all then you’re likely to give up on them because you haven’t achieved anything towards them yet. This will make you feel like you’re not going to get anywhere with them.
Even taking small steps towards reaching your big goals in life, makes you feel proud because every step you take is getting you closer to achieving your dream.
Remember, that every big goal is trial and error. Therefore, don’t be afraid to make some mistakes along the way because this is what helps to make you better, grow and learn.
