you're your only competition

We are constantly pressured to act a certain way, live a certain lifestyle, and look a certain way. So, we forget that you’re your only competition in life because social media portrays an unrealistic view of how our lives should be and how we should look. Celebrities constantly bombard us with their flawless looks, thriving businesses, and luxurious lifestyles filled with world travel and endless parties.

Also, we are taught by society and family pressures to be better than other people and to achieve more than others. We view life as a big competition and are constantly trying to outdo everyone.

It’s so easy to compare yourself with people because we see what people are doing every day through Facebook and Instagram. However, we forget that this is just a highlight of their life and not how it is on a day-to-day basis.

We always portray how good our lives are but it’s not like that all the time. People don’t show the negative side of things or what they’re struggling to achieve themselves.

Once you stop comparing yourself to others and start to remember that you’re your only competition in life great things will happen. If you compare yourself to other people all the time then you will never be happy. You will never feel good enough or complete. There’ll always be someone who looks better than you, has more, and will achieve more in their lives. Therefore, when you focus on competing with others you will always lose and never be happy and content with your life and yourself.

When you remember that you’re your only competition it will help you to see that…

As Long As You’re Better Than You Were Yesterday Then You’re Winning

When you stop comparing yourself and your life to other people’s you’ll begin to focus solely on improving yourself and your life. The only person that you should try to be better than is the person you were yesterday. You’re your only competition and it’s vital you remember that.

Once you have this mindset you will become more productive and focused. You will use all your time and energy working on you and it will make you feel good about yourself and your life.

Wake up every day with the mindset that you are going to do and be better than yesterday. Learn from your mistakes, and keep striving towards the life you want.

It’s Pointless Worrying About What Other People Have Got or What They’re Doing

Who cares if someone is further ahead in life than you!? Everyone is different and sometimes it takes people longer to get there. Therefore, it’s pointless comparing yourself to other people. Stop worrying about what they have or what they’ve achieved because no one is the same. You need to focus on what you want, how you can improve, and how you’re going to be better than the person you were yesterday. You’re your only competition in life and you need to focus your energy on you.

If you compare yourself to other people you will never be happy. There will always be something else that you need to do and become to be on their level. However, once your aim is only to be better than you were yesterday then you will begin to forget about what other people are doing with their lives. You’ll be focused on improving your life a little every day.

Comparing Yourself to Others Makes You Feel Bad

If you constantly compare yourself and your life to others then you will never lead a healthy and happy life. Comparing yourself to others makes you feel bad. You can feel belittled and like you and your achievements in life aren’t good enough. Additionally, you will feel inadequate if you don’t have what they have. Constantly competing with people is exhausting and bad for your mental health.

If you’re always in competition with other people then you’ll always be needing and wanting more. Therefore, you will always be putting pressure on yourself and feel useless. You will be thinking why don’t I have what they have? Why can’t I look like that? I want to go on 3 holidays a year. Why don’t I have that car? I wish I had a bigger house etc. It’s never-ending and you’re always going to feel like a loser if you keep comparing yourself to other people.

However, when you remember that you’re your only competition this will enable you to focus solely on yourself and your happiness. As long as you are working toward your goals and improving daily, then you are winning.

It Makes You Bitter When You Compete With Others

If you’re competing against other people, especially the people who are actually in your life, this makes you a competitive and bitter person. You will spend so much time focusing on trying to outdo other people and beat them in life that you won’t notice how obsessive and negative you are as a person. Furthermore, if you’re competing against your friends it can stop you from being supportive of their achievements. It can make you jealous and want to outdo them all the time. Therefore, this can make you bitter and can affect your relationships with people. Remember, you’re supposed to support and encourage your friends to grow.

It Stops You From Concentrating on Yourself

If you are always in competition with other people and are always comparing yourself to them, then you are wasting time that you should be working on yourself, focusing on what they are doing instead.

It’s distracting thinking about what other people are doing. It stops you from working on yourself and focusing on the steps and things you could do to make yourself better.

Summary

When you remember that you’re your only competition in life you will begin to only focus on yourself. You can work on becoming better than the person you were yesterday.

You need to remember that other people aren’t you so why waste so much time and energy watching and being jealous of what they’re doing!?

Create a life for yourself that makes you happy and makes you a better person. Start focusing your energy on yourself and don’t worry about what other people are doing because it’s irrelevant.

It’s also important to remember that people only tend to show the good side of their life. Therefore, comparing your life to celebrities and successful people is too intimidating and too much pressure to put on yourself.

If you live a life competing and comparing yourself with others then you’ll always need to do more, achieve more, learn more, be more, etc, it’s a never-ending cycle.

Therefore, you should focus your time and energy on working on yourself. Improve a little each day and you will create a better life for yourself as time goes by.
