The best way to achieve your goals, plans, and things that you are working on is to not tell anyone that you’re doing them. Other people’s opinions, negativity, and criticism almost always put people off pursuing or reaching their goals in life. Revealing your goals to others will add extra pressure and unnecessary attention to your goals.
You may think that telling other people your plans will help you to stay on track with them. You think you will feel more accountable and stick to them but the opposite is true.
How many times have you been excited about something you want to achieve? And, you can’t wait to tell everyone around you!? You’ve finally decided that now is the time you’re going to drop 2 stone. You’re going to start writing that novel you’ve always dreamed of writing. Or, you’re going to start up that online beauty business and you can’t wait to get started.
Sure, you may get a rush out of telling anyone and everyone about your exciting new venture. And, some people will be supportive and make you feel good about your idea, which is great…right!?… wrong…
Remember
It’s common that if you tell other people your plans you are less likely to work towards achieving them. Often the feeling we get from expressing our exciting ideas and verbalising them gives us a rush of positivity. This then leads to a false sense of achievement and we feel like we’ve taken the first step towards reaching our goal. It tricks your brain and this false sense of accomplishment can get in the way of us actually pursuing our goals.
Furthermore, once you tell people your plans you will inevitably get a lot of negativity thrown your way as well. Whether it’s from friends, family, or colleagues, someone is always going to have a negative input. Some people will secretly want you to fail. Subconsciously, they are unhappy with themselves and they don’t want to see other people succeed.
This can make you question whether your goal is achievable and whether you’re good enough to achieve it. Furthermore, it can put you off working on your plan altogether.
The truth is you are more likely to achieve your goals if you keep them to yourself!
When you stop telling people your plans or what you’re working towards it will…
Stop Negativity from Influencing You– Stop Revealing Your Goals
There’s nothing worse than being excited about something you want to work towards and someone puts a downer on it. Their negative input makes you feel like it’s a silly idea or it’s not a realistic goal. People can have a massive negative impact on how you feel about things. Other people’s opinions can affect your plans and make you give up before you have even started.
However, if you keep your plans and goals to yourself you will avoid the feeling that people are judging you and your achievements. Other people’s opinions can spoil your plans. They may belittle your goals or make you feel like you aren’t good enough to achieve them.
When you don’t tell people the things you are working on, you avoid negative energy influencing you. Remember, not everyone in your life wants you to succeed. People can be sceptical and put you down because they don’t wish for you to be successful in life. It makes them happy to give their negative opinions and put you down because they would be jealous if you reached your goal.
Other people’s negativity can make you doubt yourself and your plans. If you’re constantly told that you can’t do that or you’ll not succeed with something, this can put you off even attempting your goals.
Stop You Putting Unnecessary Pressure on Yourself
If you tell other people your plans then you are far less likely to achieve them. You will put extra unnecessary pressure on yourself to reach your goals quickly.
When everyone knows what you’re working towards then they can have negative input into what you’re doing. They can make you feel like a failure if you mess up, slip up, or decide that it isn’t for you.
Once you stop telling people your plans and keep them to yourself, you remove judgment. And, the “I told you so” comments that make you feel worthless and like you will never achieve what you set out to do.
If only you know that you’re working towards losing 2 stone then if you have a bad couple of weeks you won’t feel as much shame or guilt. No one else will be passing negative judgment on you and making you feel like a loser. However, if you keep revealing your goals then you had added pressure and eyes on you.
The road to success and reaching your goals is a complicated one and you won’t achieve your plans overnight. It takes hard work, time, and effort to get to where you want to be. You will inevitably make mistakes along the way. However, failure helps you to learn, grow, and be more successful in time.
If you keep revealing your goals then when you hit bumps in the road you may get negative criticism from people saying that you can’t do it and you should give up. However, if you keep your plans to yourself then you remove all the unnecessary stress and pressure from other people’s opinions and input about what you want to achieve.
Not Revealing Your Goals Will Help You to Succeed
Once you stop telling people your plans and goals you will be far more likely to pursue them and succeed. You will focus on yourself and your goals instead of pleasing or proving yourself to the people around you. It will help you to follow your intuition and stop letting other people’s negative opinions or advice affect you.
If you tell other people your goals then the process of telling them and being excited about finally verbalising your plans can trick your mind into thinking you’ve achieved something already. This can often make you lose interest in your goal once everyone knows about it. This fake sense of accomplishment makes your brain think that you’ve started working on your goal when this isn’t really the case.
You’re far less likely to work towards reaching your goals if you keep revealing your goals to the people around you. Ultimately, other people’s input can have a negative impact and change your mind about pursuing something out of fear of failure, criticism, or other people mocking you.
If you don’t tell people your plans you are far more likely to succeed because you’ll be working towards your goal for you and you alone. Furthermore, you will avoid any negativity getting into your head and ruining your plans.
