pursue what truly matters

It’s easy to get stuck in a constant cycle of trying to fit in with the crowd and trying to look good to others. Therefore, we forget to pursue what truly matters in life and where we should be focusing our time and energy.

We often surround ourselves with people who aren’t good for us and look for validation from them. We can get so caught up in living a life that everyone else thinks we should live. Ultimately, we forget who we truly are at our core and what would actually make us happy.

We chase people who we know aren’t good for us, who treat us badly, and who don’t care about us. We stay in toxic friendship circles and spend our weekends drinking and caving into peer pressure because we don’t want to feel alone. Similarly, we pursue careers or go down certain life paths we don’t want to, to make our parents happy and not ashamed of us.

The list goes on and on but it’s time that you stop living for everyone else in your life. Start chasing the right things that will truly make you feel fulfilled and happy.

Make Yourself Happy

You need to start chasing the things that make you feel good about yourself. Start working towards your goals/dreams, create healthy relationships, a healthy body and mind, and your dream career. Improve your circle so that it’s full of only supportive and positive people. Ensure that you are enhancing and enriching your life in all areas.

Start spending your time with the people who make you feel good about yourself and who are in alignment with what you want. Don’t waste your time on people because you feel guilty, peer-pressured, or because you’re too comfortable to leave them behind. It can be hard to distance yourself from people even though you know they’re not good enough for you.

However, it’s time to start chasing the right things. Stop spending your life living for the weekend and drinking away your problems. If you feel the need to escape your reality then you need to start focusing on your happiness.

Remember

Stop punishing yourself by going after things that you know deep down aren’t good for you. Remember, you deserve the best in life and you are worthy of living an amazing, healthy, and happy life. Furthermore, you deserve to surround yourself with people who appreciate you and want to see you succeed.

You don’t need validation from toxic people who don’t have your best interests at heart. Therefore, stop chasing after people who don’t value you or appreciate you.

Instead chase the people who inspire you to be better, who lift you up, support you, and encourage you. It’s not “uncool” to say no to partying or wasting your life away. Staying in and working on your goals and being able to get up early and get ahead of the game is coo. This will give you a massive head start in your life.

If something doesn’t feel good then you need to start leaving it behind. No matter what it is, if it doesn’t bring you joy, and peace, or improve your life, leave it behind. You need to make time for what does make you feel good and enriches your life.

Stop living your life for other people or copying what they do because you think it makes you look good or like you’re winning at life. Focus on what actually makes you happy and what you truly want to achieve in your life.

It’s better to have a smaller circle of true friends and people who care about you. If you keep living a life you don’t actually like to impress others then you will never be happy. These people don’t value you and your happiness and in the grand scheme, they are irrelevant to your life.

Journaling Prompts to Pursue What Truly Matters

To start chasing the right things in your life, ask yourself…

  1. What and who makes me happy?
  2. What would I do if I knew there would be no judgment?
  3. Which areas of my life am I unhappy with?
  4. Which changes can I make today to help me live the life I’ve always dreamed of?
  5. What toxicity can I remove from my life?
  6. How do I want to spend my time?
  7. What can I do today to help me to get closer to my goals?
  8. Which negative habits am I leaving behind?
  9. What new positive habits am I replacing these with?
  10. How can I create more time in my day to work towards reaching my goals?
  11. What is going to matter to me in a year and how can I focus more of my energy towards these things?

These prompts will help you to discover what and who you value in your life. They will enable you to pursue what truly matters to you and your happiness. We only get to live once and it’s important not to waste it living an unfulfilling and empty life.
