We all have busy schedules and lives, and it’s common to put everyone else before yourself. You want to make sure that you’re doing well at work, your partners happy, and you’re helping out with your family. Also, that you’re supporting your friend through a breakup or looking after your kids, etc. However, you need to find time for a little “me time” frequently. Remember, that you are your number one priority in life and you must create time for yourself to be truly happy.
You can’t push yourself and your needs to one side to keep everyone else around you happy. Therefore, you must take some time for yourself frequently to do what you enjoy and focus on yourself. Otherwise, you could start resenting the people around you or push yourself into burnout.
Taking a day for yourself frequently may seem a little self-indulgent if you’re not used to it. You may think you don’t have the time to just do what you want and focus on yourself. However, it will do wonders for your mindset and your relationships in the long run.
Start freeing up a few days a month in your calendar that are solely based on doing what you want to do and spending time with yourself. You’ll begin to see a massive shift in your life and your happiness if you start to put yourself and your needs first sometimes.
Here are just a few reasons why you need to start taking a day for yourself often…
You Need Time for Self-Care
We all need to spend time by ourselves sometimes and to take time out to focus on our mindset, and self-care and to unwind. If you’re going at 100mph constantly then you’re going to end up exhausted, irritable, and resentful towards your life.
It’s important to take time for yourself and to relax. Remember, it’s not selfish to need time to yourself. It’s OK to say no to plans you don’t want to keep or make. Instead, spend this time pampering or working on yourself.
Take a day off for yourself and spend it doing what makes you happy and in touch with yourself. You could go on a long walk, or take a nice hot bubble bath with some wine. Or, you could order your favourite food, chill on the sofa, or give yourself pamper treatments.
You Can Figure Out What You Truly Want Out of Life
Take time for yourself away from other people. You begin to look inward for answers and how to truly make yourself happy. If you spend time alone it will allow you to listen to yourself and what you really want out of your life.
You need to listen to your internal voice and what it’s saying to you. If you’re constantly focusing on everyone and everything else in your life, then you’re not being true to yourself. You need to take a step back to discover what you need to make yourself happy.
It Gives You Time to Reflect
Having a day to yourself frequently will help you to have the distance and time to reflect on the areas in your life that you want to improve or change. It will enable you to take a step back and see the bigger picture. This will help you to appreciate the things that you love in your life. Furthermore, it will flag up areas that you want to improve. Dedicate time to yourself and create a little distance from others. You will see what steps you need to take to thrive and live the best life possible.
It Will Help Improve All Areas of Your Life
If you’re constantly focused on other people in your life, then you will not be prioritising your needs. It can make you stressed and overworked, which means you’re not living a happy, healthy, or positive lifestyle.
You may think that putting everyone else before yourself will make them happy but in the long run, it’s going to cause tension and problems in your relationships.
Taking regular time for yourself to enjoy your own company and do the things that you want to do will help to improve all areas of your life. When you’re well-rested and make yourself a priority, you will see your relationships improve because you’ll feel calm and appreciated more.
You’ll also see your happiness, self-esteem, and self-confidence grow. After all, you will know that you are important and will appreciate your life more because you’ll have time to reflect and see the bigger picture of your life.
It Will Help You to Learn to Love Yourself
If you never spend quality time alone with yourself, then you’ll never know what makes you happy or how to love yourself.
Self-love is one of the most vital things you need to live a positive and happy life and reach your full potential. You need to learn to love yourself and put yourself first sometimes. You’re the only person who is 100% always going to be there for you.
It’s crucial to know how to be by yourself and not dependent on others because other people can let you down.
Get to know yourself better by taking days just for yourself. Go on a long walk in nature and start listening to and loving yourself. Remember, if you don’t love yourself, you’ll never have the love from other people that you deserve.
It Will Avoid a Burnout
If you’re constantly on the go, and spending all your time focusing on work and making the people in your life happy, then you’re headed for an inevitable burnout at some point in your life.
You need to take time for yourself to re-energise and re-group with yourself. Otherwise, you’ll just be constantly running on empty and will make yourself miserable.
Taking a day for yourself frequently will avoid you having burnout and working too hard. You’ll also be more switched on and happier when you do things with other people because you’ll have taken time to relax and focus on yourself for a while.
We All Need Some “Me Time” Once in a While
Taking some time for yourself often is not selfish and it’s vital for your happiness and to live a positive life. You need to take time to enjoy your hobbies and what you love to do in your spare time once in a while.
Go somewhere on your own, spend time alone, pamper yourself, practice self-care, and work on your self-development. Unwind, read, listen to music or podcasts, meditate, journal, binge-watch TV, etc.
Whatever makes you feel alive and happy, do it!
