We spend far too much time worrying about how we look and our insecurities that we forget how insignificant they are in the grand scheme of life. We hold ourselves back from living our best lives and enjoying the moment because we are so caught up in hating our bodies. How many times have you dreaded being seen in your bikini on holiday, or, in your bridesmaid dress? I’m sure you’ve dreaded family photos or even getting undressed in front of your partner. It’s time to stop hating your body starting today!
No matter what shape or size you are, you can learn to love and accept your body as it is today. Whilst working on the areas that you want to improve without putting yourself and your body down.
Everyone is different and that’s what makes you who you are. It’s pointless comparing yourself to other people because you are not them. Therefore, stop wasting time looking at your thin friends or celebrities with envy. Instead, start embracing the things you love about your body and accept the things that you don’t like as much.
Here are some things to remember when you find yourself feeling bad and insecure about your body…
Everyone Has Insecurities
It doesn’t matter who you are, how beautiful you are, how thin you are, or how tall you are, everyone has something that makes them feel insecure about their appearance.
You’re not alone in disliking certain things about your body. However, it’s not healthy when you hate your body and feel ashamed of it. You need to learn to embrace and love yourself for who you are and how you look in the present. This is a massive and powerful way to learn to be content and confident in yourself.
You may think “If I just lose this belly fat, I’ll love my body and be happy”. However, you need to learn to accept your body as it is now. Start learning to be happy regardless of whether you lose the extra pounds or not. You can always work towards improving yourself. However, I’ve found that once you’re happy with one area, you’ll move on to the next thing that you dislike and this cycle never ends.
You may wish you looked like your favourite celebrity and feel bad about your body. Furthermore, you may think that your bums too big or small. Or, that your belly’s too big or your hips are too big. However, they may be disliking their thighs or wishing they had bigger boobs. The things you dislike about your body, other people are wishing they had.
Stop wasting your time worrying about how your body looks and how you wish you looked more like other people. Instead, remember that everyone has their own insecurities regardless of how other people see them. You need to learn to be happy in your own skin no matter what size or shape you are.
Your Body Keeps You Alive
We spend so much time obsessing over the things we hate about our bodies that we forget that we wouldn’t exist without them. They are what keep us alive, breathing, and moving! Our bodies do so much for us. They repair themselves and keep everything functioning so we can live our lives.
It’s important to remember that it’s pointless spending time and energy hating on yourself and your body. It’s the only one you have and it’s what you’ve got to work with. Therefore, you can decide to spend your time feeling down and insecure about your body. Or, you can decide to stop hating your body and appreciate it.
Other People Won’t Even Notice What You Hate About Your Body
We tend to exaggerate the things we dislike about our bodies and see them a lot worse than what they are. You may be really self-conscious about your height and hate how small you are. This may lead you to believe that people look down on you or see you as being inferior. However, the truth is that these things are all in your head. Remember, other people are far too concerned about how they look and feel. They won’t even notice or care about your insecurities.
It’s also important to remember that the things we dislike about our bodies other people will love. Beauty really is subjective. Stop hating your body and start embracing it. We are all unique and no one is going to notice or see your body in the negative way you do.
It Holds You Back From Enjoying Things to the Fullest
Constantly stressing about how you look and hating your body, stops you from enjoying life fully. If you’re unhappy with your body then it can affect how you feel and act in social situations. You may be too self-conscious to do the things you want to do because you feel uncomfortable in yourself and hate your body.
It’s time to stop hating your body and to throw yourself into things regardless of if you’re body isn’t exactly how you want it. You need to learn to embrace yourself for how you look and forget about things you dislike about yourself.
Life is too short to hold yourself back because of your insecurities and negative self-talk. Once you learn to not care about these insecurities or what other people of you, you will instantly become more confident and happier.
You need to remember that other people don’t care what you look like. Your insecurities aren’t reality or how other people see you. Therefore, you should eat that cake at a party, and jump off the boat on holiday. Get up and dance at your friend’s wedding, and surprise your partner with new lingerie. Start living your life despite your insecurities. You will become more confident and people will instantly find you more attractive and fun to be around.
Wear Things That Make You Feel Good About Yourself
Wearing things that make you feel good about yourself will help you to feel more confident and attractive. Dressing for your body shape will help to compliment your figure and enhance the things you like about yourself.
You shouldn’t hide your body with super baggy clothes. Or, try and squeeze into a dress that’s too small for you. Both of these things are going to make you feel worse about your body and you’ll hate the way you look and feel even more.
If you wear something that is comfortable, and makes you feel good about yourself, you’ll feel more confident in yourself and this will help to build your self-esteem.
Social Media Images Aren’t Real Life
The images of celebrity’s bodies that we see online aren’t real, they have been edited to look perfect. They have teams dedicated to achieving the perfect look. Makeup artists, stylists, cameramen, lighting, etc, and they all play a part in creating the perfect angle and look for social media.
They don’t always look that perfect and a lot of work goes into the images that you see online. They too will have days when they don’t wear any makeup and have breakouts on their skin, this is normal. You need to stop fixating on how beautiful and perfect people look on the internet because it isn’t real life and no one looks flawless 24/7. We all have good and bad days.
Stop hating your body and yourself because you don’t look like other people. They will have taken 100 photos just to get that one that makes them look their best.
You Can Improve the Things You Don’t Like
Instead of fixating on the things you hate about your body and how miserable they make you feel about yourself, learn to embrace the things you like about yourself first.
If you spend time nurturing and enhancing the parts of your body that you like you will begin to feel more confident in yourself. You can always work towards improving the things you dislike about your body. However, that shouldn’t be your only focus and you need to change your mindset.
Instead of saying “I hate my body, I’m so fat, ugly and no one will ever love me”, you need to change your mindset to a more positive one. Instead, you can say “I love my legs and my eyes and I’m happy and healthy but I’d love to tone my stomach and work on loving that as well”.
There’s no point in feeling miserable about your body and how you look because you have the power to adjust the things that you don’t like as much about yourself.
Some People Would Kill for Your Body
Sometimes we are so wrapped up in stressing over the things we hate about ourselves, that we forget just how lucky we are to have the body we already have. Some people would kill to have the body that we take for granted regardless of if we have a few extra pounds or think we are too tall.
We forget how lucky we are to be able to walk, breathe, and function on our own in the bodies we have. So many people don’t have this privilege and would be grateful to live their lives how they wanted without any interruptions.
Instead of hating your body, you need to learn to be grateful, embrace the body you have been given, and live your life being happy in your skin. Stop focusing on the things you dislike about your body because, in the grand scale of things, they are insignificant and hold you back from positively living your life.
