The Ultimate Christmas Tree Dough Balls Recipe for Your Festive Feast
Ingredients
- 500g Strong bread flour
- 7g Fast-action yeast
- 2 tsp Caster sugar
- 1 tsp Salt
- 250g Butter (melted)
- Olive oil (drizzle)
- 150g Mozzarella
- Fry light spray
- 4 Garlic cloves (crushed)
- 1/2 tbsp Parsley dried
- Parmesan grated (optional)
Instructions
- Add the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt to a mixing bowl. Add 100g of the melted butter and 275ml warm water. Mix together to form a dough and then knead for 10 minutes until soft and stretchy. Add the dough to a lightly oiled bowl and cover with a tea towel. Leave in a warm place to rise, until doubled in size.
- Drain the mozzarella and place on kitchen paper to remove any excess moisture. Line a baking tray with grease-proof paper and heat the oven to gas mark 6/200℃/400℉.
- Knead the dough for another minute and then divide it into 17 equal-sized balls. Flatten each ball into a circular shape and add even amounts of the mozzarella to the middle of each circle. Then, fold the sides around the cheese and roll it into a ball shape, ensuring that the cheese is encased. Place the dough balls, seal-side down onto the baking tray, and arrange them into a Christmas tree shape, leaving a thin gap between each ball. Spray with fry light spray until each dough ball is lightly oiled and leave to prove again for 30 minutes.
- Bake in the oven for 20-30 minutes until golden brown. Meanwhile, place the leftover butter in a small saucepan and add the garlic and parsley. Heat on low for 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Finally, once the dough balls are cooked, remove from the oven and brush with the garlic butter. After a couple of minutes brush again with garlic butter and sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese across the top if using and enjoy. Serve with your favourite dipping sauces.
