what you want

It’s common to focus on what you don’t want to happen, instead of focusing on what you want. We let our worries, fears, anxieties and stresses take over our current reality. Therefore, we lose sight of the present moment because we’re so worked up about what’s going to happen in the future.

We focus on not wanting to get sick, our partner cheating on us or stressing about always getting overlooked at work. Additionally, we don’t want any more debt, to miss that deadline, never reach our dreams, etc. The list goes on and on.

The problem is that focusing on what you don’t want to happen means you’re more likely to attract negative things into your life. Ultimately, you are spending so much time and energy on them. Even though you’re telling yourself you don’t want these things to happen, your brain can’t distinguish between what you don’t want and what you want. It just picks up what you’re thinking about and assumes that’s what you want. So, whatever you’re thinking about and worrying about you’re drawing more of the same into your life.

No one knows what the future will hold for them. However, if you’re constantly worrying about the worst-case scenarios in your life, you will stress yourself out. This means that you will suffer twice if your fears do come true. Remember, that whatever you focus on expands. Therefore, if you want to live a happy and fulfilling life, then start feeling happy and positive now. Start living in the present moment and focus on being happy now because your current reality creates your future. What you do today and what you focus on will shape the course of your life.

Remember

Focus on what you want, instead of what you don’t want, you will draw more positive outcomes into reality. Positive energy attracts happiness, success, abundance and positive outcomes into your life. Why spend your time being miserable, worrying and stressing about things you don’t want to happen in your life? Instead, why not start focusing on what you want to happen and how you want to feel?

Stressing and worrying won’t stop the bad things from happening to you. Acutally, it’s more likely to make your fears come true. Therefore, it’s time to stop being negative and thinking of the worst-case scenario all the time if you want to live a happy and fulfilled life.

You can only control your present reality. Remember, you cannot change what’s happened in the past and you can’t see into your future. However, if you live in the present moment and focus on what you want, you’ll attract more positive outcomes into your life.

Changing your mindset to focus on what you want and not on what you don’t want to happen will change your life. You’ll be happier in the present moment and will become more positive about your future. Thinking about the positive outcomes that you want to have in your life will help you focus on the good things in life. It will help you to see all the amazing possibilities that there are for you.

Here are my top 5 things to do when you catch yourself thinking negatively. Or, focusing on what you don’t want to happen in your life…

Release Negative Thoughts and Emotions

Whenever you feel negative, stressed, anxious or worried, ask yourself what is causing you to feel this way? Our negative emotions stem from our negative thoughts. Therefore, if you change your thoughts then you change your mindset to positivity.

Practice letting go of your negative thoughts and emotions as soon as they pop up. Ask yourself why you’re feeling this way and allow yourself to feel the emotions. Then, ask yourself if you’d rather have this feeling or if you’d rather be free of it. Decide to give yourself permission to let go of the feelings and negative thoughts and move on with your day.

It takes a bit of practice but get into the habit of feeling your emotions instead of suppressing them. Then, choose that you want to be free of them and let them go. This will start to become a new positive habit that will help you to move on in a more positive way.

Stop Yourself When You Get a Negative Thought and Change it to a Positive One

Another amazing technique I use to focus on what I want, instead of what I don’t want is to change my negative thoughts into positive ones. It’s time to start thinking of the best-case scenario. Think about what you want to happen instead of what you’re afraid of.

Focus on every positive thing that you want to feel and experience in your life. Then, concentrate your energy towards thinking about positive outcomes in your life. If something didn’t go your way today or you reacted negatively towards something, think about how you would have changed it and what you would have wanted to happen instead. This will help you to train your brain to react more positively in the future. It will change your mindset and outlook on future challenges that come your way.

Morning Goal Setting

I find that setting my intentions and goals for the upcoming day in the morning helps me to stay focused on what’s important, what I want to achieve and how I want to feel that day.

Pick 3 main goals that you are going to achieve. Then, set the intention of how you want to feel and how you will react to any negativity that comes your way.

Daily Positive Thinking Practices

Using daily positive thinking will help you to transform your mindset from focusing on what you don’t want, to what you want. I find using daily affirmations, meditation, visualisation or manifestation helps me to get clear and focused on what I want from my life.

Decide on what you want more of in your life and focus your energy on acting that way now. Believe that you already have everything you want in your life and act as if. Start focusing on how you want to feel and act that way today. Feel happy now, feel successful now, feel confident now, feel grateful now etc. Why wait to feel good? The sooner you start embodying the emotions you want to feel, the closer you will be to creating that reality for yourself.

Night Time Journaling

The final thing that I do to help me focus on the outcomes I want and how I want to feel, is to write in my nighttime journal. Start writing in a nighttime journal and set your intentions for the following day and everything that you want to happen.

Write down how you want to feel, and how you want your day to play out and let go of any anxieties or worries from your day.
