I’m guilty of pushing myself too hard sometimes and being too hard on myself if I’m not productive. However, it’s not healthy if you feel guilty and like a failure because you wake up and don’t feel motivated to take on your day and your goals. Treating yourself to guilt-free slob days is essential once in a while for your mental well-being.
Remember, everyone has days when they’re not with it. It’s important to take a step back sometimes and look after yourself. Giving yourself permission to do nothing and to embrace it is really empowering. It changes your mindset when you’re not feeling your best from guilt to self-care. Instead of feeling bad and useless, you will feel in control. Remember, that taking a break is essential once in a while.
I love to have a “slob day” a couple of times a month. I just do whatever I want and I don’t feel guilty for it. It could be lazing on the sofa binge-watching a film series, ordering takeaway, and listening to music. Or, playing games, reading a good book, or sunbathing in the garden with a few drinks. Whatever your thing is, it’s vital for your happiness and mental health to take a step back and slow down once in a while. Enjoy the simple things in life you’re normally too busy to enjoy or feel bad when you do them.
Here are some reasons why having a “slob day” once in a while is good for you…
You Need Time to Rest
No one can keep going at 100mph all the time. Therefore, it’s crucial to learn to rest and listen to your body when you need to slow down.
Trying to power through when you’re exhausted and running on empty isn’t good for your health. Furthermore, you won’t be performing at your best and full potential anyway.
You need to learn to take time to rest and have a “slob day” when your body tells you you need one. It’s a great way to avoid burnout from burning the candle at both ends and overworking yourself. Remember, it’s important to take time to rest and have time for yourself once in a while.
Slob Days Are Good For Your Mental and Physical Health
If you feel like you’re overworked and never have time for yourself or to do the things you enjoy in life, then your mental health will begin to take a hit. It’s not good for your mental or physical health to constantly be on the go with no respite or time for yourself.
Therefore, learning to unwind and take time for self-care is vital for your health in general. Enjoying a day chilling and doing things that you enjoy, without the guilt, is amazing for your happiness and stress levels.
Slob Days Give You Quality Time With Yourself or Your Partner
Having a “slob day” to yourself or with your partner once in a while is a great way to reconnect with yourself and your partner. If you’re constantly on the go and stressed with work and life you can lose sight of what’s important.
Therefore, taking time to chill with your partner or for just some well-earned rest for yourself is important for a healthy and happy relationship. If you give yourself permission to chill and relax for the day without the guilt you will enjoy the moment more and not feel bad about yourself.
Binge-watch things you’ve been wanting to catch up on or have a pizza and movie day and enjoy just being for once.
You’ll Be Well Rested and Ready to Take on the Rest of Your Week
Having slob days once in a while will help you to rest and reset your mindset and your body. You’ll be more energised and ready to go the rest of the week because you’ve given your body a chance to recover and relax. Therefore, you can then get on with being productive with a happier mindset. Instead of feeling stressed, lethargic, and not on top of your game.
Being Unproductive Can be Productive
Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is to be unproductive. This might sound counterproductive but it’s pointless trying to push through exhaustion, a down day, or heavy stress.
When you’re close to burnout and cannot focus because you’re too tired and stressed, you’re only going to make things worse by forcing yourself to keep going.
You need to learn when to stop and take time for yourself to rest. So that you can come back the next day with a fresh head and get more achieved because you’re on top of your game again.
“Learn to relax. Your body is precious, as it houses your mind and spirit. Inner peace begins with a relaxed body.”– Norman Vincent Peale
Summary
Give yourself permission to do nothing and have slob days a couple of times a month or when you feel like you’re not capable of achieving your goals that day. Don’t beat yourself up or feel guilty about not being productive and taking some rest time for yourself.
It’s vital for your mental and physical well-being to listen to your body and stop before you burn yourself out. You’ll only make yourself more stressed and possibly ill if you keep pushing yourself too hard.
So, tell yourself you have permission to fully enjoy a day of doing nothing, chilling, or pampering yourself.
You don’t have to be on top form every day and it’s natural to want to unwind once in a while. Embrace it and enjoy it!
Start again fresh tomorrow once you’ve taken some much-needed downtime for yourself.
