This Chinese chicken with black pepper sauce classic, is healthier than your local takeaway, but tastes just as good. Furthermore, it’s ready in under 30 minutes, and it’s the perfect comforting meal with less of the guilt.
This recipe uses chicken breast, however, you can use chicken thighs if you prefer.

Authentic Chinese Chicken with Black Pepper Sauce
Chinese chicken in a black pepper sauce with peppers, onion, carrot and mushrooms
Ingredients

- 1 tbsp Coconut oil
- 2 Chicken breasts (cut into chunks)
- 1 Carrot (peeled and cut into small rounds)
- 1 Onion (cut into chunks)
- 1 Yellow pepper (cut into chunks)
- 1 Green pepper (cut into chunks)
- 150g Mushrooms (halved)
Black Pepper sauce
- 6 tbsp Oyster sauce
- 6 tbsp Water
- 2 tbsp Light soy
- 2 tsp Cornflour
- 2 tsp Black pepper
- 1 tsp Garlic granules
- 1/2 tsp Brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp Salt
To Serve
- Long grain rice
Instructions
- Add the oyster sauce, water, light soy, cornflour, black pepper, garlic granules, brown sugar and salt to a bowl and whisk until well combined.
- Heat 1 tbsp coconut oil in a wok or large frying pan to medium. Add the chicken and cook for 3-4 minutes turning frequently, until starting to brown. Add the carrots and cook for 1 minute.
- Add the onion and peppers and cook for 2 minutes, stirring frequently. Add the mushrooms and fry for another 2 minutes. Add the sauce and stir until well combined. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for 5 minutes stirring occasionally. Serve with rice and enjoy.
